Clarity™ Switchable Glass Supports Privacy and Visibility at Baptist Health
Miami, Florida

Baptist Health incorporated Clarity™ switchable glass into sliding patient-room entrances and adjacent observation windows. The installation gives staff a way to control visibility across the complete entrance while supporting patient privacy and the clean, streamlined design of the clinical corridor.

The Project
At Baptist Health in Miami, patient rooms connect to the surrounding clinical corridor through wide sliding glass entrances and adjacent observation windows.
The extensive glazing supports visibility into patient-care spaces and contributes to a bright, open environment. At the same time, each room must provide privacy when patient needs and care activities require it.
The Privacy Challenge
Privacy had to extend across multiple glazed surfaces rather than a single door or window. The sliding entrance panels and adjacent observation windows needed to work together to provide consistent visual privacy across the complete room entrance.
Conventional curtains or surface-mounted blinds would add exposed components to the glazing and interrupt the clean appearance of the corridor. Baptist Health needed privacy that could be incorporated directly into the openings while allowing visibility to remain adaptable.
The Solution
Privacy Glass Solutions supplied Clarity™ switchable glass for the sliding patient-room doors and observation windows.
Clarity™ transitions between transparent and private states, allowing staff to adjust visibility according to the needs of the room. Because the privacy technology is contained within the glass assembly, the doors and windows retain smooth, easily cleaned surfaces without exposed blinds, cords or curtains.
Using the same privacy technology across the different openings also creates a consistent appearance throughout the patient-care corridor.
Supporting the Healthcare Environment
The completed installation provides Baptist Health with an integrated privacy solution designed around the practical needs of patient-care spaces:
- Visibility when observation is appropriate
- Privacy during care, consultation and recovery
- Coordinated privacy across doors and windows
- Smooth, easily cleaned glass surfaces
- No exposed blinds, cords or curtains
- A consistent appearance throughout the corridor
The Result
Clarity™ gives Baptist Health a more adaptable way to manage privacy across its patient-room entrances. Staff can maintain a visual connection when appropriate and transition the glass to privacy when needed, without adding a separate covering to the opening.
The project demonstrates how switchable glass can support privacy, observation and clean architectural design as part of one integrated healthcare glazing system.
