Integral Blinds Support Patient Visibility and Privacy at Wellstar Paulding Hospital

When Wellstar Health System replaced its aging Paulding County hospital, the organization used evidence-based design to create a safer, more efficient environment for patients, families, and caregivers. BetweenGlassBlinds™ were incorporated into interior clinical openings to provide adjustable privacy without eliminating the visibility staff needed for patient observation.

The Project
Wellstar Paulding Hospital was developed to replace an aging 32-bed facility while supporting the continued growth of Paulding County. The new eight-story hospital opened with 56 private patient rooms and the ability to expand to 112.
The facility also included adult and pediatric emergency exam rooms, surgical suites, decentralized nursing areas, and patient-care spaces designed around safety, visibility, efficiency, and access to natural light.
The Privacy and Observation Challenge
Clinical teams need to observe patients efficiently while maintaining privacy during examinations, treatment, and rest. Conventional exposed blinds introduce additional surfaces and components into spaces where cleanliness, reliability, and simple operation are important.
The hospital needed a privacy solution that allowed staff to control visibility without adding exposed blinds to the patient-care environment.
The Solution
BetweenGlassBlinds™ were installed within interior clinical openings to provide adjustable privacy and observation control. The enclosed Venetian blinds allow staff to change the level of visibility while keeping the blind protected between two panes of glass.

Wellstar Paulding Hospital’s design process placed a strong emphasis on patient safety, caregiver efficiency, and informed design decisions. Published project documentation specifically identifies view windows with integral operable blinds at charting stations outside patient rooms as part of the hospital’s approach to improving patient visibility.
This application allowed caregivers to remain visually connected to patient rooms while retaining the ability to create privacy when clinical conditions required it.
The Result
BetweenGlassBlinds™ helped Wellstar Paulding Hospital balance two competing clinical priorities: maintaining appropriate patient privacy and supporting efficient visual observation.
By enclosing the blinds within the glazing assembly, the hospital gained a durable privacy solution suited to patient rooms, charting areas, and other demanding healthcare environments.
